The meaning of the “roof of the world”, in the ancient times, was called Zhoushu Mountain and Green Onion. The ancient Silk Road passed here was a gathering place of many major mountain ranges in Asia. The main inhabitants were the Tajik people. After breakfast, set off on Karakoram Highway, the “highest and most beautiful highway in the world”. On the way, you can admire the rural scenery of the Uyghur farmland in southern Xinjiang. Along the way, you can see the “Oitak Red Mountain”, which is called “Southern Flame Mountain”, and take photos in front of the Baisha River, which is known as the Quicksand River, and the ghostly axe Blunkou. Admire the color-changing plateau lake [Lake Karakuri] at close range, and the reflection of the “Father of the Iceberg” Muztag Peak at 7,546 meters above sea level is on the lake of Karakuri.

Khaplu village: This handsome village of timber-and-stone houses and precision-made dry walls climbs up a wide alluvial fan beneath an arc of sheer granite walls. Painstaking irrigation has made it a shady, fertile oasis. As you climb its twisting track, the icy peaks of the Masherbrum Range rise on the other side of the valley. It’s hard to imagine a more majestic setting near a public road anywhere in Pakistan. The main attractions are the 2600m-high village itself, the old Royal Place and even older Mosque above it at Chakchun, and the heart-stopping views.
