The first successful winter expedition to Gasherbrum-II, led by Mr. Simone Moro and organized by Hunza Guides Pakistan, took place during the winter of 2010-2011. Gasherbrum-II is the 13th highest mountain in the world, located in the Karakoram range in Pakistan.
The expedition was a significant achievement as no one had successfully climbed Gasherbrum-II during the winter season before. The team faced many challenges during the expedition, including harsh weather conditions, extreme cold, and high altitude. However, with their experience and determination, they were able to overcome these challenges and reach the summit on February 2, 2011.
The expedition team included Simone Moro (Italy), Denis Urubko (Kazakhstan), and Corey Richards (USA). They spent several weeks acclimatizing and preparing for the climb before attempting the summit push. The team used a combination of fixed ropes and climbing techniques to reach the summit, which stands at 8,035 meters (26,362 feet) above sea level.
The successful winter expedition to Gasherbrum-II was a significant achievement for the climbers and for Pakistan. It highlighted the potential for mountaineering in Pakistan during the winter season and showcased the country’s natural beauty and hospitality.
Hunza Guides Pakistan, the local company that organized the expedition, is known for its expertise in organizing mountaineering expeditions in Pakistan. The company has been instrumental in promoting tourism in the Hunza region and supporting local communities through sustainable tourism initiatives. The success of the Gasherbrum-II winter expedition was a testament to their professionalism and dedication to promoting adventure tourism in Pakistan.
